The Palace of Versailles is visited by millions each year, but only a small percentage of guests see the 2,000 acres of this incredible domain. Biking in Versailles is the only way to take in the sheer magnitude of this beautifully preserved space. Beyond the palace lies a labyrinth of perfectly manicured gardens, colorful flowerbeds, ornately shaped shrubbery, gravel paths leading through forests of exotic trees, and an entire village made for Queen Marie Antoinette. Join us for skip-the-line access into the palace along with so much more. Our guides will weave together the story of Versailles, from its humble beginnings as a hunting lodge to the preeminent architectural structure of the 18th century. We would love to show you around our favorite outdoor haven.

We have adopted enhanced cleaning policies, which means that all high-touch surfaces (think bike seats, handlebars, etc.) are cleaned before and after each use. For guests who may forget a mask, we have those available free of charge. We also make hand sanitizer available throughout the day, and we practice social distancing whenever possible. Visiting the park and gardens of Versailles is a great way to experience this historic domain while staying safe. The palace itself will have updated Covid protocol depending on your tour date, and our guide will share this with you at the beginning of your tour.
We will meet you in Paris, just near the RER C, which is the train that we'll take to Versailles - it's about a 30 minute ride. The exact meeting point is just outside the Javel-André Citroën metro station (line 10). Use exit 1 (sortie 1, right side) and look for the small park/clearing on Avenue Emile Zola opposite a café named "Café Regalia". Your guide will be there with a Fat Tire sign and wearing a Fat Tire t-shirt/fleece.
Should you wish to arrive to the meeting point by taxi, the easiest address is 1 Avenue Emile Zola, 75015 Paris.
The cost of round-trip transportation to Versailles is included in the price of the tour. Please note that Versailles is in zone 4 of the Parisian train system and is likely not included in a daily ticket combo you may have, which often only accounts for zones 1-3. But fret not, we have your tickets for you! Your tour will end in Versailles, but you will be given tickets to get back to Paris. Trains leave from Versailles every 15 minutes and they all go into Paris. From the main train, you can easily make connections to the metro to arrive back at your place of accommodation.
Although this is a full-day tour, we don't consider the biking portion to be strenuous. There are some small inclines and varied terrain, but anyone comfortable on a bike with moderate physical capability should be fine. In terms of the biking requirements, we ask that all guests have good balance, be able to start and stop comfortably, and be familiar with hand brakes. Most of the tour will be within the park of Versailles, although there will be some road riding towards the beginning and end of the day. In an effort to see everything that Versailles has to offer, riders should be prepared to keep pace with the group as it covers more ground than many of our other tours approximately 10.1 miles (16.25 km). Safety is our number one priority but confidence in yourself is the first step to overall group safety. If you are nervous about your ability, feel free to reach out to us in advance (support@fattiretours.com) to discuss specific concerns.
Absolutely! You are welcome to meet us at our Versailles office, located at 10 Avenue du Général de Gaulle, 78000 Versailles, within a small shopping center. Our exact office location faces a courtyard; you should be able to see our bikes from the outside. This space is just across from the main Versailles train station (Versailles Rive Gauche-Chateau de Versailles). Please make sure we can reach you by the phone provided at checkout. When making your reservation, be sure to leave us a note in the comments section to indicate that you will meet us directly in Versailles. Your guide will assemble the rest of the group in Paris and then reach out to you by phone to give you an estimated arrival time in Versailles. Note that the train ride is approximately 30 minutes. We ask that all guests meeting us in Versailles aim to be there between 9am-9:15am and know that you may have to wait up to 30-45min for your group to arrive. There is a McDonalds and a Starbucks within a few steps of our office should you wish to arrive early and enjoy a warm drink.
We have comfortable, city bikes meant for riding upright and leisurely cycling. We also have a number of children's options, and you can see the details for these bikes after selecting the 'child' option in checkout. Height & weight requirements are listed as well as the general ages for each accessory. Unfortunately, we do not have adult tricycles, adult tandems, or bikes with training wheels for adults or children that may be less confident in their riding ability. We ask that all guests over 12 be able to ride their own bike. If you have a specific condition, please reach out to us at support@fattiretours.com so that we can try and accommodate.
It's the perfect way for families to explore Versailles! Kids often get bored with endless museum visits, but a bike tour through the park of Versailles is a great way to get them engaged in this beautiful oasis just outside of Paris. We only ask that your children have been riding for a while should they wish to ride their own bike. The ride is not strenuous, but it is a longer ride. You can reserve kid's equipment during the booking process; look for specific bike accessories for kids after selecting the 'child' option. Please note that our 20" & 24" bikes have hand brakes; pedal brakes are not available.
Included in the cost of the tour is round-trip transportation to Versailles, skip-the-line entry into the chateau, entry into the park of Versailles, a garden ticket for entry into the formal gardens, entry into the domain of Marie-Antoinette, a live, local guide, a helmet (only mandatory for those under 12), and a basket per household. The cost of lunch is not included, however we will allow time at the open-air market in Versailles to shop for picnic supplies for an epic lunch on the grounds of Versailles. Be sure to bring Euro cash along, as not all vendors accept credit cards at the market.
We're happy to reschedule you for free (based on availability) or cancel and fully refund your Versailles Bike Tour with a minimum of 72 hours notice prior to the activity time. Due to the skip-the-line nature of this tour, within 72 hours, we are only able to issue partial refunds or future credit.
Our tours run rain or shine, but we do have rain ponchos available for purchase in our office for anyone that needs them. Ponchos will be bough-back at the end of the tour if you don't use them, so it's a great rain insurance policy for anyone who forgets their rain coat!
Our Versailles Bike Tour covers approximately 10.1 miles (16.25 km), and lasts about 8.5 hours.
