Market Tour & French Cooking Classes: Explore with Your Senses
We kick off this day at our delightful Latin Quarter location with coffee and fresh croissants before heading out as a group to a local open-air market. After your guide fills you in on the history of the neighborhood, they will begin to weave you through the various stalls and explain the history of French market culture. You'll receive fascinating insight into how professionals choose produce and an understanding of where the vast array of products come from. You are given free time to roam about the market and put your newly found knowledge to the test, before going back to the kitchens where all of your ingredients have already been purchased and selected especially for your class by a professional. During the hands-on cooking experience, you will be introduced to fundamental culinary techniques and learn about the theory behind them, all while having fun and drinking a glass (or two) in the process. Our time will conclude with a delicious 3-course lunch paired alongside carefully selected wine and cheeses for you to enjoy the fruits of your labor! During lunch, your host will share stories on each of the dishes to help illustrate various aspects of French culture: a bit of history, a touch of sociology, tongue in cheek humor, and naturally quite a bit of gastronomy.
In France, the pleasure of a meal derives both from the food and the fact that we share our meals. And what do we share? Usually conversations about food. So we will make sure you hear our stories about the ingredients and recipes along the way, and take the opportunity to discover a bit more about the French culture.
