Head into the North York Moors National Park where you will explore the beautiful landscapes and historical sites before heading to the coast, this tour is a day to make memories you will never forget. Our first stop of the tour is Pickering, a ancient market-town on the border of the North York Moors national park. Here you can enjoy tea or coffee while meandering around the quaint town, there will also be an option to visit the church, famous for having the oldest wall paintings in England inside. From Pickering we travel into the national park itself, famed for the stunning views of heather moorland which, on a clear day, can extend for 50 miles in every direction. When the heather blooms the landscape is painted deep purple, showcasing the natural beauty of the rolling hills! We stop next in Goathland, famous for its role in the TV series Heartbeat. Here you will have a brief stop where you can see Goathland Station, which featured in the world-renowned Harry Potter movies as Hogsmead. Next we arrive in Whitby for lunch, a traditional seaside town, where there is a wide choice of places to eat with fish and chips being the local favourite. There are a number of things to see and do such as visiting the dramatic ruins of Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for the novel ‘ Dracula’ or even taking a stroll along the harbour with its quaint shops. Please note, Whitby Abbey is closed Mondays & Tuesdays throughout the winter from November – February. After our lunch stop it is time to travel through the heart of the moors, following roads through the stunning expanse of heather moorland you will be treated to the wealth of knowledge our local driver guides possess. Learn about the ancient traditions, folklores and legends which have been passed down through generations. Listen to tall tales and stories from the national parks past and learn about the natural history of the beautiful landscapes. There will be a short stop in Helmsley where you can explore the village and you will have the option to visit castle ruins for an additional charge. We will then make our way back towards York whilst enjoying the views over the Vale of York. Sit back and enjoy more scenic Yorkshire countryside as your memorable tour draws to a close.
