Once we arrive in the town of Versailles, we have a 10-minute walk to the palace. As you approach the chateau, you will be awed by its size, grandeur, and the crowds! That’s why we make our way into the formal gardens first, avoiding the peak times inside of the palace. The gardens of Versailles have been held up as the standard of French gardening for ages, and you will see why. Stand at the grande perspective and take in the entirety of the grounds, including the Grand Canal and the 2,000 acres of forestland. Mosey through the groves with your guide leading the way and learn about why King Louis XIV designed them each in their particular way. You will have the opportunity to stop for a hot or cold drink while in the groves before making our way back towards the palace. Fully equipped with the knowledge and history of the Chateau of Versailles, you will then have a chance to marvel at the marble floors and velvet curtains yourself. Our guide will provide you with one final overview of the palace and give you pointers on how to enjoy it at your own pace, and then you are free to discover the interior at your leisure. You will have an audio guide that will help you navigate your way through the palace, stopping to see famous rooms such as the Queen’s bedroom and the magnificent Hall of Mirrors. After your visit inside the palace, it’s up to you to choose whether or not you want to venture back into the formal gardens, make your way back to Paris, or enjoy a bite to eat at one of the many quaint cafés not far from the chateau.
