Valley adventure is a dogsledding escapade for the whole family. Come and visit over 60 Siberian Huskies before hitting the trails!
This is a very popular activity. Reservations for weekends, Christmas vacations, and anytime from mid-february to the last week of March should be made 1 or 2 weeks in advance. For any other time, reservations should be made a few days in advance.
We usually configure 2 adults per sled (one driver, one passenger) Children go with the guides for safety reasons. Configuration also depends on the weather and snow conditions.
These dogs are canine athletes who are bred to pull and run in a cold environment. They are trained and fed properly to be able to do it well. They like pulling a sled as much as a retriever likes fetching a stick. This will become obvious just before the ride starts. Feel free to ask your guide anything you want about sled dogs… learning about the dogs is an interesting part of the experience.
Yes, each participant over 90lbs will have a chance to drive the sled. The reason for the weight restriction is to be able to apply enough pressure when needed on the brake to stop the dogs from moving forward.
This activity can be strenuous for drivers. As a driver you are part of the team, so when the climbs are steep the driver will have to get off and walk, jog or even help push the sled.
At the start of this adventure, you will be greeted directly at our kennel where you can visit over 60 Siberian husky dogs. Before hitting the trail your guide will help you harness the huskies, learn your dogs’ names and give you some security tips and simple instructions on how to drive your 6-dog team through winding forest trails suitable for everyone.
Before the departure, the adults will be teamed up. Our guides will decide positions on the sleds. (If you have a particular position request please make it known to our guide when you arrive). There will be one driver and one or two passengers per sled. Adults will usually, but not always, drive their own dog sled with an adult passenger. Passengers and drivers can switch places half way through the excursion. Children may be required to ride as passengers on the guides’ sleds or ride on parents sled.
We will take a break half way in a shack to warm up next to the fire and to taste some homemade traditional desserts and a hot chocolat. Then, back at the kennel, you will have time to pet the dogs and reward them with some cookies! You will also visit the kennel and the puppies (seasonal). A special time spent with the pack!
At the end of the activity, a hot bowl of soup will be served as you warm up next to the fireplace. It’s an unforgettable, unique experience. Make sure to bring your camera!
